Words to Live By

At Mount Sinai, the Israelites receive teachings about their relationship with God and how to live with one another. These teachings include honoring parents, keeping a day of rest, and not stealing or giving false testimony.

The Ten Commandments are part of a larger Jewish tradition of learning and asking questions about what is right.

Rabbi Moose starts with ideas children can practice: tell the truth, care for people, and respect what belongs to someone else. Respect also includes being able to ask a trusted grown-up for help. Learning good ways to live is not one finished lesson. It is a conversation we return to as we grow.

For grown-ups: the source and wider story

This is a selective retelling inspired by Exodus 20:1–17. It is not a translation or a complete account. Choose the wider discussion that fits your child.
