Sarah’s Happy Laughter

When Sarah hears that she will have a child, the news is surprising. Later, when Isaac is born, her laughter becomes part of the joy of the story.

Isaac’s name is connected with laughter. Sarah speaks of the happiness that others will share with her. A long-awaited change brings a new beginning to the family.

Rabbi Moose explains that people laugh for many reasons: surprise, delight, or a moment when a worried heart grows lighter. Happy laughter is kind when it joins people together. It is different from laughing at someone. Today, we can look for a gentle joke, a funny face, or a sweet little moment that everyone can enjoy.

For grown-ups: the source and wider story

This is a selective retelling inspired by Genesis 18:9–15; 21:1–7. It is not a translation or a complete account. Choose the wider discussion that fits your child.
