Jacob’s Night of Stars

Jacob is traveling far from home. As night comes, he stops to rest, using a stone near his head. In his dream, he sees a ladder or stairway reaching toward heaven, with angels moving upon it.

The story tells of God promising to be with Jacob and watch over him on his journey. When Jacob wakes, the ordinary place feels different. He has discovered meaning where he did not expect it.

Rabbi Moose reminds his listeners that an unfamiliar place can bring unfamiliar feelings. A bedtime routine, a favorite story, or a call with someone we love can help us feel connected. We can carry a sense of home through the people and traditions that care for us.

For grown-ups: the source and wider story

This is a selective retelling inspired by Genesis 28:10–22. It is not a translation or a complete account. Choose the wider discussion that fits your child.
